Reblogging to remind everyone why “Not every white person is like that” is bullshit.
Mmmhmm http://party—dress.tumblr.com/ u sure showed them, look at how u proved white people aren’t racist by being racist.

A Black man can save the lives of three women who have been held captive for ten years and the first thing most people want to do is make fun of his hair and autotune the news report.

Good job internet.

Stay classy.

What has it got to do with him being black at all? They go off things that have the most potential to be funny/can be made into a song. This is the internet, relax.

yeah didn’t really need to say “black man” did it. Man would really have sufficed.. we are all human you know

You need to read this document: 28 Common Racist Attitudes and Behaviors.

Specifically pay attention to this:

1.I’m Colorblind.
“People are just people; I don’t see color; we’re all just
human.” Or “I don’t think of you as Chinese.” Or “We all
bleed red when we’re cut.” Or “Character, not color, is what
counts with me.”
REALITY CHECK + CONSEQUENCE:
Statements like these assume that people of color are just like you, white; that they have the same dreams, standards, problems, and peeves that you do. “Colorblindness” negates the cultural values, norms, expectations and life experiences of people of color. Even if an individual white person could ignore a person’s color, society does not. By saying we are not different, that you don’t see the color, you are also saying you don’t see your whiteness. This denies the people of colors’ experience of racism and your experience of privilege.
“I’m colorblind” can also be a defense when afraid to discuss racism, especially if one assumes all conversation about race or color is racist. Speaking of another person’s color or culture is not necessarily racist or offensive. As my friend Rudy says, I don’t mind that you notice that I’m black.” Color consciousness does not equal racism.

Reverse Racism

inspirednitemares:

“Why do white men/boys feel the need to interject their opinion when not asked?” I absolutely hate reverse racism and those who ignore it or think it doesn’t exist are just as racist and ignorant as their peers

You need to read this document: 28 Common Racist Attitudes and Behaviors.

Specifically pay attention to this:

3. Reverse Racism.
A. “People of color are just as racist as white people.”
B. “Affirmative action had a role years ago, but today
it’s just reverse racism; now it’s discriminating against
white men.”
C. “The civil rights movement, when it began, was
appropriate, valuable, needed. But it’s gone to the
extreme. The playing field is now level. Now the civil
rights movement is no longer working for equality but
for revenge.” Or
D. “Black pride, black power is dangerous. They just want
power over white people.” (Include here any reference to
pride and empowerment of any people of color.)

REALITY CHECK + CONSEQUENCE:
A. Let’s first define racism with this formula:
Racism =racial prejudice + systemic, institutional power. To say people of color can be racist, denies the power imbalance inherent in racism. Certainly, people of color can be and are prejudiced against white people. That was a part of their societal conditioning. A person of color can act on prejudices to insult or hurt a white person. But there is a difference between being hurt and being oppressed. People of color, as a social group, do not have the societal, institutional power to oppress white people as a group. An individual person of color abusing a white person – while clearly wrong, (no person should be insulted, hurt, etc.) is  acting out a personal racial prejudice, not racism.

B. This form of denial is based on the false notion that the playing field is now level. When the people with privilege, historical access and advantage are expected to suddenly (in societal evolution time) share some of that power, it is  often perceived as discrimination.

C+D. C is a statement by Rush Limbaugh. Though, clearly  he is no anti-racist, both c+d follow closely on the heels of “reverse racism” and are loaded with white people’s fear of  people of color and what would happen if they gained  “control.” Embedded here is also the assumption that to be “pro-black” (or any other color) is to be anti-white. (A similar illogical accusation is directed at women who work for an end to violence against women and girls. Women who work to better the lives of women are regularly accused of being “anti-male.”)

Do black people name their pets with black people names? Like if they call their dog for dinner they’re like “shaniqua get over here gurl” then the dog comes running with beads and 100% pure sass.

For those who don’t know what show they’re talking about it’s a short show, based on a true story, about a two young siblings who were racially harassed and assaulted and how they had to overcome it. From what I remember the brother was beaten and both were covered with with white powder by a group of white kids.
Now the fact that this one here saw the show and instead of, maybe just maybe, experienced sympathy or empathy or some point of understanding on racial relations and dynamics, they want to complain about how the show is trying to make them suffer from white guilt and it’s reverse racism.
How do you sit there and watch this show on a black child’s experience with coming to terms with racism in such an ugly way and say to take that you’re tired of reverse racism?
This is why I don’t care about white guilt people feel. Don’t make shit about you when you could’ve actually learned from it. And don’t talk to me about reverse racism when you’ve just displayed your lack of basic empathy.

lol this reminds me of the time this bitch in high school protested the dean showing “Mississippi Burning” because it “protrayed white christians in an unfair light”

If you see something racist, hear about something racist, read a racist post/article, or have racist friends/coworkers/family members, please do not go to a PoC’s inbox and tell them about it. We deal with enough bullshit in our lives outside of tumblr that we really don’t need you dumping more stuff on us here. We are not your attack dogs, we are not your mules, we are not your workhorses, and we are not your research tools. We are not your therapists, your psychiatrists, or your family counselors.

So, don’t do that.

Ever.

Please.

Seriously. You don’t wanna know how many messages I have just like that in my inbox right now. I may answer one or two of them every now and then, but for the most part they just sit there because I don’t feel like dealing with it.

So stop it.

to them it’s just an “interesting” story but to us, every incident is an upsetting and sometimes even triggering situation, so by doing this, you are literally piling potential trigger over potential trigger on our already racism-filled lives.

One of the many reasons why this blog exists.

I dont think black people understand how lucky they are.

They can be ignorant, stupid, smart, fat as shit, skinny as hell, poor, rich, a giant asshole to girls, the nicest guy.

And girls will still go out with them because of their big dicks.

While us small dicked guys can’t catch a break

Ahh nothing like racism AND misogyny in one post.
